A KEIGHLEY teenager has ‘braved the shave’ to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Thomas Keighley, 15, from Long Lee, had his hair cut off as part of the charity’s national campaign.

The student at Parkside School in Cullingworth raised £500, and also donated his hair towards wigs for young people fighting cancer.

Thomas said he wanted to thank all those who sponsored and supported him.

Macmillan launched its Brave the Shave campaign, both to raise money and so that people could express solidarity with cancer patients going through hair loss.

Proceeds go towards Macmillan activities, including nurses who provide one-to-one support for cancer sufferers, maintaining information support centres, providing financial support and advice.

The charity said £10 spent on a Macmillan Line could help someone claim more than £400 in benefits; £360 would run an information and support centre for a day, while £1,020 would fund a Macmillan nurse for a week.
