HOW Martin Carr can write a review like he did in the Keighley News when he is totally ignorant of the brilliant works of John Godber – as he states, one of the third most watched English playwrights – is beyond belief – Difficult to pull off complicated act (June 30).
Men of the World was written for three actors, two men and one woman, who are all coach drivers. Not three male coach drivers, as he surmises. Women can drive coaches.
The woman’s name was Frank. Women can be called Frank, short for Frances, a woman’s name.
Mr Carr needs to do more research before he writes such rubbish.
I watched the play on Thursday evening, June 23, at Keighley Playhouse. Not only was it very funny but the actors playing the difficult parts were absolutely brilliant and very professional. I think John Godber would have been very proud of them.
All I can say is Mr Carr must have very little literary knowledge and no sense of humour.
