A NINETEEN-year-old motorist is today fighting for his life in hospital after a crash involving a car and a lorry.
The man was flown by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary following the accident at around noon yesterday, on the Keighley-bound carriageway of the A629 Aire Valley Trunk Road between Cross Hills and Steeton roundabouts.
A spokesman for Keighley Fire Service said paramedics requested the driver be released from the car, a silver Toyota Corolla, as soon as possible.
βIt was a medical situation and we had to get the patient from the vehicle as soon as possible,β she said.
Crews from Keighley, Bingley and Shipley attended. The Technical Rescue Unit from Cleckheaton was mobilised to the scene but was stood down.
Paramedics attended to the injured man at the roadside before he was transferred to hospital.
There were no other injuries reported.
Police closed the road causing delays to commuters and a diversion was put in place temporarily.
The Keighley Bus Company announced to passengers that services 66 and M4 through Cross Hills were delayed.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said the road was re-opened soon after 5pm.
Inquiries into the crash are ongoing.
