ART came to Keighley town centre in a horsebox to highlight the role horses had in the First World War.

The mobile exhibition was mounted by Bradford-based artist Peter Robson and Shipley-based artist Ian Dashper.

Of the works displayed in the horsebox on Church Green last Thursday, (July 7) 10 were by Mr Robson and comprised a collection of war-related works called "Unobtainia".

While some of the paintings had a First World War theme, others linked to more modern conflicts in the Middle East.

Mr Robson said the Keighley visit was part of a tour which was also taking in Skipton, Burnley and Rochdale.

He added: "We were able to engage with people in Keighley really well.

"One person we spoke to was an ex-soldier with mental health issues who got quite emotional at one stage.

"He said, 'what you're doing is really good, because people need to see this'. That made it very worthwhile."

Mr Robson emphasised that the most recent wars in the Middle East have not only involved British military casualties but tens of thousands of civilian deaths.

His work is also due to be exhibited in Shipley Library for two weeks from the start of August.
