A CHALLENGE Day raised a mammoth £43,000 for Manorlands.

Four-strong teams from businesses across the region took part in a range of activities.

There was 4x4 off-road driving, clay pigeon shooting, archery, Segway riding and target golf.

A raffle, quiz and auction boosted the funds coined-in through entry fees.

And the event culminated with a hog roast supper and drinks.

Since the annual Challenge Day was first held – at the Coniston Hotel, Coniston Cold – eight years ago, it has now raised over £305,000 for the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

Companies represented this year included Keighley brewery Timothy Taylor, OPM Labels and the Yorkshire Bank.

Overall winner was Leeds-based Savills (UK) Ltd and Gordons LLP was runner-up.

Coniston Hotel director, Louise Bolton, said: "This event is always a great opportunity to raise money for a worthy cause in a superb location, with fantastic facilities and a range of exciting activities.

"Many of the teams present on the day were regular corporate or leisure guests who trust us with their reward, recognition and team-building events.

"People commented that this had been the best-ever Coniston Challenge Day!"

Manorlands fundraiser Carly Brunskill said she was "thrilled" with the success of the event.

She added: "It is an absolutely fantastic event and would not be possible without the kind support of Coniston Hotel owners Michael and Ethne Bannister and their family, the estate's activity providers and the Keighley Manorlands Challenge Committee, which helps with the organisation.

"The hotel, estate facilities, staff time and all the food and drink are generously donated for the whole day and we are hugely grateful.

"We are also grateful to all the companies which entered a team in the event.

"It costs £3.3 million each year to run the hospice and £2.1m of that we need to raise through voluntary income.

"The support of everyone means that we can continue to provide incredible care to our patients and their families, both at the hospice and in the community."
