KEIGHLEY Town Council has stated that the plan to demolish the old college and replace it with a public sector hub makes no sense – Worries over college plans (Keighley News, July 14).
Although the former mechanics’ institute buildings are not listed, they are within Keighley’s conservation area.
Both Historic England and Bradford Council’s own heritage experts are strongly opposed to the destruction of these 19th and early 20th century buildings.
Despite these objections and those of members of the electorate, the planning applications are recommended for approval at a meeting of Bradford Council’s Regulatory and Appeals Committee on July 14.
Is this Bradford’s reprisal against those who have called for Keighley to be independent of Bradford?
