KEIGHLEY-based Scouts rolled up their sleeves to support a pair of community environmental action days in the town.

They first helped litter pick and dig out the vegetation on footpaths surrounding the Nashville Road area at the bottom of Fell Lane.

They joined members of neighbourhood watch group, Nashville Terriers, and other residents.

One of the volunteers baked cup cakes for participants to enjoy, while other refreshments were provided by Oakworth Co-op.

During a separate action day, on June 28, the Scouts joined members of the Friends of Westfell group to litter pick, dig out weeds, distribute wood chippings on a path and plant up a new raised flowerbed at the Westfell Road green space.

Friends members and Scouts baked a selection of cakes and sandwiches, which were complemented by a donation of juice and sweets from Broomhill Co-op.

Both groups celebrated their efforts at the end of the action session at the Scout hut in Fell Lane.

All the rubbish they collected was removed by Bradford Council's clean team.

Community development worker, Pip Gibson, said: "This was a shining example of community spirit, with young people working alongside neighbourhood groups to help keep their local environment tidy.

"The local Co-ops have again shown their support. Many thanks to everyone involved."

Scout leader, Richard Hancock, said: "The Fell Lane Scout group is at the heart of the community and many residents have contact directly or indirectly with us.

"To have the opportunity to work with other groups and to improve the area has been a really good experience for the Scouts, and one that all involved in can be proud of."

Both the Nashville Terriers and the Friends of Westfell thanked the Scouts and their leaders for their hard work.
