CROSS Roads-based Yorkshire Cat Rescue has received a £5,000 boost.

The charity has been awarded the cash, from the Pedigree and Whiskas Feeding Brighter Futures initiative, to help fund new accommodation at its rehoming centre.

New pens, due to be finished this year, will provide more light for the cats and enable staff and volunteers to observe them without need to open the doors during bad weather.

There is also under-floor heating.

Anthony Dean, for Whiskas, said: "We would like to congratulate Yorkshire Cat Rescue on its successful application.

"The level of entries we had this year as part of the Feeding Brighter Futures campaign was fantastic and showed how much our work is valued by the charities."

Sara Atkinson, chief executive officer of Yorkshire Cat Rescue, said she was delighted with the grant.

She added: "There will be nothing better than watching the cats in their new warm and dry home, which we hope will help deter isolation and increase socialisation amongst the kittens."
