KEIGHLEY businesses have given their support to a community champion who raised thousands of pounds for charity by running two 10k races – one while fasting for Ramadan.

Clarus opticians and Shimla Spice restaurant both sponsored Nazim Ali.

The 35-year-old completed the Great North 10k at Gateshead in just under 59 minutes, after fasting for more than 19 hours.

And he finished the Leeds 10k in 57 minutes and 39 seconds.

His efforts raised more than £13,000 for the work of SKT Welfare, which supports humanitarian projects in some of the world's poorest communities.

"My humble efforts would not have been possible without the generosity and ongoing support of the donors – it is because of them that those in need around the world are benefitting from vital aid," said Mr Ali.

"I was blown away by all the support."
