Steeton Reserves 3 Holmfirth Town 7

STEETON had an afternoon they would rather forget as they went down to a strong visiting side.

Town scored after just seven minutes when a parry by returning goalkeeper Chris Wheater was swept away by skipper Andy Howland, who was unfortunate to see his clearance strike an opponent and deflect into the net.

The lead was doubled after 24 minutes when a low shot was drilled past Wheater. A minute later Town beat the offside trap and scored a delicate chip before Ben Clarkson pulled one back, firing in off the post ahead of the interval.

Just four minutes into the second half Brannan Lawn reduced the deficit further for the hosts and an equaliser seemed a possibility as confidence grew.

Unfortunately between the 55th minute and the end of the game Town managed four more goals as they got back into their stride and dominated a young and tiring Steeton side.

The Chevrons had the last word seconds before the final whistle when they awarded a penalty, which mystified everyone but may have been for a foul on substitute Aaron Abbas. Skipper Andy Howland converted the kick.

Team: Wheater, Alex Briggs (Steel), Bryceland, Walton, Howland, Gilmartin, McGowan, Smith, Clarkson, Lawn (Abbas), Chawira (Whitman).
