COUNCILLORS in Oxenhope have discussed how to improve safety for road users at one of the busiest parts of the village.

Members of Oxenhope Parish Council expressed concern over the area known as Muffin Corner, where a mini roundabout regulates traffic at the spot where Station Road, Keighley Road and Hebden Bridge Road meet.

Clerk Elaine Pearson said a resident had asked for the matter to be raised, noting that traffic hazards at the location were a particular problem at school leaving times.

Cllr Tony Maw said he was aware that one vehicle had driven into a wall at Muffin Corner, while chairman Cllr Ken Eastwood – who lives nearby – said he had heard "near misses" at the location from his own home.

Cllr David Ashcroft said: "I've often seen cars not pausing to give way at the roundabout and just assuming this is a 'straight through' route.

"We need something on Keighley Road to warn people to slow down as they come into the village."

Cllr Maw suggested rumble strips could be one way of slowing vehicles down as they approach the roundabout.

Mrs Pearson said she would arrange a site visit at Muffin Corner with district councillors and a Bradford Council highways officer to help find a solution.
