HAWORTH and Worth Valley Rotarians are hoping to enjoy a purple patch.

They are joining forces with their neighbouring steam railway to plant around 10,000 crocuses.

The flowers will add a splash of colour at Haworth Station, on the five-mile Keighley & Worth Valley line.

The initiative is in support of Rotary's Purple4Polio programme, to eradicate the condition globally.

Rotary and the railway will each buy a bag of bulbs and planting will take place in the next couple of months.

"The plan is to involve as many local community organisations such as the Scouts, Guides and children's groups as possible," said a spokesman.

"It is hoped that when the crocuses emerge next spring the impressive splash of colour will raise the profiles of the Purple4Polio campaign, the railway and Haworth and Worth Valley Rotary Club."
