A KEIGHLEY Brewery has staged a home-brewing competition at its base off Dalton Lane.

The event at Wishbone Brewery, in Chesham Street took place in conjunction with The Northern Craft Brewers, a home-brew group from across the north of England.

The contest comprised 23 entries of bottled home-brew.

During the event the brewery's own bar was open and it served home-brewed beer as well as one of Wishbone's own beers. Proceeds from the bar went towards Cross Roads based charity Yorkshire Cat Rescue.

The brewery's owners, Adrian and Emma Chapman, said the event had been a success, adding that they intend to hold it again next year.

Mr Chapman said: "We had a panel of six judges made up of brewers, bottle shop owners, beer bloggers and our malt supplier.

"We gave engraved tankards as prizes for first, second and third placings.

"Our main aim was to hold an event where like minded home-brewers could meet up, share ideas and appreciate good beer.

"All proceeds from the brewery bar went to Yorkshire Cat Rescue, a charity we both feel passionate about supporting.

"We've had many of our own cats from Yorkshire Cat Rescue over the years and Emma is currently studying Cat Behaviour in her spare time.

"We managed to raise £318 for the charity, which we're delighted about."
