THE NAUTICAL youth of Keighley have been given a top accolade during their annual inspection.
Keighley Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets were granted the Burgee standard following the inspection in May this year.
Unit spokesman Corinne Metcalfe said: “This is the highest award available and means we are still one of the best in the West Yorkshire District.
“We currently have over 30 cadets who attend on a regular basis.”
Earlier this month several cadets received various qualifications, some gained during this year’s summer camps.
Eight Keighley cadets joined others from across the country at HMS Bristol at Portsmouth, carrying out training and Marine engineering, advanced catering and rope work.
Four Royal Marine cadets went to summer camp at Thetford , where they put into action their fieldcraft and teamwork skills.
The unit has been looking for new committee members and adult volunteers to help run the unit and work with the children, who are aged from 10 to 18.
