A STEETON Primary School teacher has been honoured at the annual eTwinning National Awards.

Diana Linford received the mentoring accolade at the event, staged at the National College for Teaching and Leadership in Nottingham.

The recognition was for the Christmas around Europe 2015 project, which saw children in more than half a dozen countries share instructions for making festive decorations, exchange cards and take part in a video conference.

The initiative was also used to train teachers in the use of eTwinning projects within the primary school curriculum and help them apply for funding from the Erasmus+ programme, which enables staff and pupils to visit other European countries for studies or training.

Mrs Linford, the project co-ordinator, said: "The children at Steeton Primary School love taking part in eTwinning projects and it broadens and deepens our curriculum when we are able to share our learning with pupils and teachers in other countries.

"Our pupils are used to working with their peers internationally.

"It has been a pleasure to introduce eTwinning and Erasmus+ to pupils and teachers in other local schools."

She was presented with the award by George Glass, from the British Council.
