A DENHOLME man has run the 127-mile length of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in memory of his mother, who died of a brain tumour.

Ryan Judson, 25, has raised more than £4,500 for Manorlands hospice in Oxenhope after his five-day journey, often accompanied by Labrador Bella, who belonged to his mother Rachel Judson, a teaching assistant.

“The challenge went really well, I was joined by family and friends at different stages of the walk which really helped to drag me through the difficult periods,” said Mr Judson.

“My body generally held up well over the five days, though I had some serious issues with blisters that hampered me greatly. There was a good crowd of around 40 people waiting to welcome me home.”

His mum, who worked at Denholme Primary School, died late last year aged 49. She was cared for at Manorlands.

"Manorlands were amazing when it came to helping mum cope," said Mr Judson.

"They made it possible for her not to have to go into the hospice permanently.

"Their nurses would come out on a weekly basis and they were only ever a phone call away if there was any problem.

"And Manorlands even paid for a stairlift to be installed so that mum could stay at home.

"The care she got from them was just fantastic."
