AN EID celebration in Keighley's Airedale Shopping Centre has raised hundreds of pounds for charity.

The event for Eid al-Adha was staged last month by the charity SKT Welfare.

Charity volunteer Arshid Ahmed said: "On the day we had a free bouncy castle for the children, free face painting, henna decoration and food.

"We also had demonstrations by an Arabic calligrapher. We gave out 650 samosas, 600 donuts and around 900 bags of sweets which had been donated to us by local people.

"It was a fantastic community event and we had a great response from the public.

"We had collection buckets out and people gave very generously. We raised over £700 which we will use for a local project.

"As always we would like to thank the Airedale Shopping Centre and its staff for their support, and also Costa Coffee who provided drinks for our volunteers."

Mr Ahmed said the charity is considering putting the latest money raised towards improving a local amenity such as a park, or something which will benefit children.

SKT Welfare already operates a weekly food kitchen at the Sangat Centre for deprived people in need of a meal.
