THE issue of people acting suspiciously in Oxenhope was raised at a monthly crime update delivered during the village's latest parish council meeting.

Parish councillors told Police Community Support Officer Helen Wynn Evans that there have been several instances of suspect people loitering in the village who hastily leave if challenged.

Councillor Peter McManus said he had been approached outside his home by the occupant of a dark car who claimed to be lost and was asking for directions to get to Haworth.

He said shortly after this incident his neighbour was also approached by a woman from this same vehicle, who asked if she could use her home's toilet.

Cllr Derrick Hopkinson said Oxenhope Cricket Club had suffered a break-in one month ago.

"They damaged the door getting in and took the till," he said. "We reported this to the police, but haven't heard anything back since then."

PCSO Wynn Evans said she was aware of a burglary on the Waterside Estate where two vehicles were stolen.

"We've recovered one of those vehicles," she added.

"Almost at the same time as this incident there was an attempted burglary on Denholme Road, so it's likely it was the same people responsible.

"Apart from that the main offences have again been thefts from vehicles, including thefts of sat navs and luggage.

"We also arrested a local man on Hill House Edge Lane for driving while over the alcohol limit."
