FESTIVE celebrations in Haworth begin with a Halloween spectacular and continue at weekends up to Christmas.

The annual Hawortheen will be held on October 29 and 30, and visitors are being invited to wear their scariest costumes and join parades up Main Street.

Organisers say: “If you are scared of things that go bump in the night, don't go to Haworth this Halloween!”

Saturday will be Dragon Day, when people can follow the giant dragon to the sound of drumbeats, while Sunday will feature a Parade of Ghouls.

Both days’ events run from 10am to 4pm. There will also be pumpkin competitions.

The Steampunk Weekend will return to Haworth from November 18 to 20 when people can either dress up or simply mingle with the weird and wonderful steampunks.

The outdoor event has been held every year since 2013, going from strength to strength and bringing a different atmosphere to Main Street.

A spokesman said: “The steampunk genre reimagines Victorian and Edwardian science fiction in a ‘retro-fururistic’ style.

“Events taking place over the course of the weekend include street entertainers, bands, and possibly a very special Steampunk Burlesque show.”

Haworth’s Victorian Christmas celebrations begin in earnest on November 26 with Fairy Day, followed the next day by the annual Scroggling the Holly parade up Main Street and the crowning of the Holly Queen.

There will be a Christmas market in the village’s Central Park on December 3 and 4.

Mike Hutchinson, one of the organisers, said a whole sack of festive Christmas cheer was awaiting visitors during that weekend.

He added: “Continue your shopping on Main Street with shopkeepers in Victorian dress, and street entertainment at various points up and down the street.

“Find that extra-special Christmas gift for your loved ones, listen to the music and join in with singing festive carols.”

The Victorian Christmas will continue with late-night shopping on December 8 and 17, a carol parade on December 10, torchlight parade on December 11, carol singers and entertainment on December 18, and a Nativity parade on December 24.

Steam-train Santa Specials will run on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway from November 26, and there will be a craft fair in the Old School Rooms, next to Haworth Parish Church, at weekends from November 12.
