CHILDREN at a Keighley school celebrated World Peace Day.

The Worth Valley Primary pupils released seven balloons in the colours of the rainbow.

Each balloon had a peace message attached and contact details for the school, to establish how far they travelled.

Earlier this year, the Bracken Bank school became the first in Yorkshire to gain Peace Mala accreditation.

Peace Mala, a multi-award-winning organisation launched following the 9/11 attacks, promotes friendship between people of different cultures and faiths.

The school said the World Peace Day event had been a huge success.

"The children thought about the successful Peace Mala philosophies and linked them with World Peace Day," said a spokesman.

"Both initiatives promote friendship, respect and peace.

"The messages are used daily in class and many children support their learning by wearing Peace Mala bracelets and badges."
