THE length of time it is taking to repair damage in Haworth inflicted by last December's floods has been queried by a parish council chairman in Haworth.

Members of Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council were being updated at their latest meeting on what is being done to rectify the damage which occurred during last year's Boxing Day floods.

The council's new chairman, Councillor Gary Swallow, said that while local groups do have a part to play in smaller scale schemes to alleviate the aftermath of floods, major infrastructure repairs can only be done by the district council or the Environment Agency.

"We are nearly two months from the first anniversary of the floods and it seems no repair work has been done here at all," he warned.

"Gulleys are still blocked all around the village, as there is no regular gulley cleaning now.

"Those blocked gulleys must be adding to the amount of water that runs down into the valleys."

Worth Valley ward councillor Russell Brown responded that he and his colleagues were pressing the district council on the need for gulley cleaning.

He said he understood that Bradford Council would be repairing the wall outside the Mill Hey Brew House pub, while the Environment Agency would fix damage to a wall behind the Conservative Club.
