A CHARITY contest has gone to the heads of South Craven youngsters.

Brain Tumour Research and Support Across Yorkshire (BTRS) challenged school children to design a flat cap.

And all three winners were from the district – two from Cowling Primary and one from Glusburn Community Primary.

The successful entries were transformed into actual flat caps by designer Rhian Kempadoo Miller and presented to the children.

The competition was staged as part of Flat Cap Friday, to raise awareness and funds.

Sorrell Coulson, for BTRS, said: "It was fantastic to see just how creative the students could be.

"We had some inspiring designs and it was a really tough decision choosing just three winners.

"You could tell that the students had embraced the campaign – it really showed in their designs.

"The support has been incredible and over £3,000 has been raised for the charity."

Natalie Del Puerto – mother of one of the winners, Mia – said: "My daughter really enjoyed taking part.

"It is such a great way of raising awareness for an amazing charity.

"Mia has learned a lot about the work of BTRS and has told many of her friends and family about it."
