COUNCILLORS have asked when the extensive damage inflicted on a well-used Haworth footpath by stone thieves will be repaired.

The poor state of the path linking Weaver's Hill Car Park with the Haworth Parish Church graveyard was raised at the latest full meeting of Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council.

Chairman Cllr Gary Swallow asked: "Is anything going to happen in future to repair this path? At the moment it's a poor invitation to the village."

Worth Valley ward councillor Russell Brown responded that he understood repairs would be made, but noted that it was unlikely the missing stone would be replaced with Yorkshire stone slabs.

Dozens of the heavy flagstones from this path were stolen in August of this year, leaving behind many exposed patches of earth.

Local people reacted angrily to what they said was another attack on the village's heritage.

Visitors regularly use this path to access the main route up to Penistone Hill, the Bronte waterfalls and Top Withens.
