A SENIOR councillor is calling for increased police action to combat crime in his ward.

Bingley Rural politician Simon Cooke was speaking following an incident at Wilsden in which a man was allegedly tasered and threatened before being robbed of his car.

Cllr Cooke said there were real concerns in the area over a rise in burglaries, particularly where high-value vehicles are targeted.

"We have had conversations and meetings with police, but it is now time for them to step up, realise there is a problem and take these crimes seriously,” said the Bradford Council Tory group leader.

"I appreciate their issues, but it is time to act."

Police say the latest incident happened at about 9.10pm last Thursday, when a 47-year-old driver was parking his white VW Golf R car in St Matthew's Grove.

Four men in dark clothing, believed to be carrying weapons, demanded he get out of his car, which he did.

The victim was uninjured.

The suspects, who were in a Vauxhall Vectra, are believed to have fled towards Royd Street.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Bradford District CID on 101, quoting 13160502407, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident. Two were released without charge and the third was still in custody as the Keighley News went to press.
