A RED Cross volunteer from Keighley is tackling a sponsored abseil – and it will be a family affair.
Shelagh Smith is being joined by her daughter Joanne and granddaughter Izzy.
They will abseil 120 feet down the Owen Building in Sheffield on Sunday (Oct 30).
The iconic structure will be adorned with the words of Sir Andrew Motion's poem, What If?
Proceeds will support the work of the British Red Cross.
"It's going to be a very special three-generation occasion," said Shelagh.
"When I registered for the event many months ago it was in response to the harrowing news pictures from numerous refugee camps we were seeing every day, where so many people had far greater fears to face than most of us will ever have to contend with.
"An abseil seemed a pretty easy fear to face in comparison!"
Money raised will help people affected by crises both overseas and in Yorkshire.
