A GROUP working to develop closer ties between the armed forces and the wider community in Keighley now has a sponsor.

The business Pay Weekly Carpets, of South Street, Keighley, has agreed to sponsor Keighley Armed Forces Association. (KAFA)

This firm has now donated a sum of £1,000 to the group.

Its contribution has been welcomed by Luke Davison, an ex-soldier who is the chairman of KAFA.

He said: "This money is a huge boost and will enable us to concentrate on marketing and products to sell to the public in order to get our name out there.

"This is also going to help us out with our main Armed Forces Day, which will next be held at Marley on Fathers' Day 2017 – Sunday June 18.

"The day will be for the entertainment of local people and we're also hoping to provide more of an insight into the armed forces for the younger generation, which will provide a new wave of recruitment."

Mr Davison left the army in 2014 and previously served in 3rd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. He completed two tours of Afghanistan.

KAFA's committee meets at 7.30am on the last Thursday of each month at the Engineers Club, in Russell Street.
