LATE autumn sunshine shone on Silsden’s Christmas market as townspeople prepared for the switching on of the festive lights.

The market last Sunday as usual offered stalls both in the Town Hall and along nearby Briggate, with a steady flow of visitors throughout the day.

The Nativity session set off from church at 3pm and went along St John’s Street and up Kirkgate.

Mary (Hannah Griffiths) and Joseph (Mathew Griffiths) along with William the donkey and several shepherds, visited all the inns in Silsden but were unable to find a room, and set up home for the night in the bandstand.

Drystone Radio transmitted live from the war memorial during the afternoon, broadcasting a performance by Silsden Town Band, the carol service, and the switching on of the Christmas lights.

The lights were switched on by 2016 British and World BRISCA stockcar champion Frankie Wainman Junior, helped by his daughter Phoebe, 20, who is the 2016 British Hotstox champion.

The event finished with fireworks.
