YOUNG people from South Craven are being given a voice.

They are being encouraged to get more involved in their schools and communities.

North Yorkshire County Council says 'youth voice' groups provide the opportunity to give input on a range of issues.

Two youngsters, Dylan Kennedy and Garrett Cole, have attended the 17th annual UK Youth Parliament sitting in the House of Commons.

There was a full day of debates and speeches on topics selected in a national ballot.

And members – known as MYPs – agreed campaign themes, including votes at 16, for the coming year.

Dylan said: "I found the most enjoyable part being at the House of Commons and listening to the debates – it inspired me to carry on with the work MYPs do."

Garrett said it was "amazing" to sit on the parliamentary benches and have discussions with other young people on matters which could have a real impact.
