A DOZEN ‘Mo bros and sisters’ at Airedale Hospital took up the challenge to either sprout extra hair or get moving to top £600 for Movember – the global campaign to stop men dying too young.
The team, named Haireshare – a play on the trust’s intranet system, which is called Aireshare – set out to raise awareness of men’s health issues around the trust but also to adopt healthier practices at work by being active during their lunch breaks.
Some members walked to work for the month during all kinds of weather, others walked around the hospital grounds during their lunchtime and the male members grew moustaches.
The team made up of both clinical and non-clinical staff, were sponsored by their colleagues and posted photos of their progress on their intranet and social media sites.
Dr Mark Hawker, information analyst at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: “My main goal was to raise the profile of men’s health issues within the trust by getting people talking, particularly across different departments.
"I’ve had lots of conversations about my moustache and it’s been really good to connect with colleagues around a shared goal and to talk about our experiences.
“I’ve been amazed by the team effort and we hope to recruit more members next year. We’ve already got an event lined up to coincide with International Men’s Day.”
