FIRE crews from Keighley and Bingley were alerted to an early morning arson attack at a house in Riddlesden.

They were called to the property in School House Fold at ten past midnight this morning. (Dec 2)

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said two sets of breathing apparatus were used to tackle the fire, adding that one man was given oxygen therapy at the scene before being taken to hospital by ambulance.

Keighley station crew commander Neal Andrews-Parry said the fire was confined to part of the building's ground floor front room, and did not take long to put out.

However, he added the fire was now being investigated by police.

"The occupants of the house were outside when we arrived," he said.

"The smoke alarms in the house had activated, which shows the importance of having working smoke alarms."

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police confirmed officers were looking into the incident.
