PARKSIDE students put their brains to the test when they entered a regional maths competition for the first time.

The four students were accompanied by mathematics teacher Michael Coles when they took part in the Senior Team Maths Challenge in November.

Cameron Allatt, George Turner, Chloe Carr and Josh Ellis are all studying Further Mathematics at the Cullingworth school.

Mr Coles said this was the first time Parkside School had competed at the event at the University of Leeds.

He said: “The four students had a wonderful time, were a credit to the school and really had their mathematical thinking challenged!”

Chloe’s maths skills have won her previous national and international awards with the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust.

The UKMT invited her to spend part of summer 2015 at historic Balliol College, part of Oxford University, for a girls-only maths summer school.

Chloe initially received a gold award in the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge, and went on to become one of the top 25 per cent of achievers in the UK.
