CROWDS filled the streets of Haworth last weekend as the village hosted its 2016 Christmas Market.

Bradford Council arranged more than 30 stalls for the top end of Haworth Central Park for both Saturday and Sunday. (Dec 3/4)

Among the goods on offer were food, ornaments, festive decorations, accessories, artwork, sweets and a variety of other gifts.

Visitors and locals could also enjoy a barrel organ at the bottom of Main Street, a craft fair in the Old School Room and rousing performances by the Pennine Chimes Choir, West Yorkshire Police Band and members of City of Bradford Pipe Band.

The weather remained cold but dry all weekend and market goers were even treated to plenty of sunshine on the Sunday.

Market trader Sally White, attending the event for her second year to assist her husband, said: "It's been very good today [Sunday] because I think the sunshine has brought even more people out.

"It was a bit gloomy yesterday, but even then the numbers weren't too bad.

"It does seem a bit busier than last year, and I have spoken to a couple of people who've come from a long way off. One man said he was from York, and we've had a few couples from Lancashire.

"We definitely hope to be back next year, it's always worth coming to Haworth at Christmas."

Among the shoppers were Utley-based couple Phil and Suzie Fielding.

Mrs Fielding, 45, said: "We've been coming to Haworth Christmas events for at least five years, but this is the first time we've actually come to the market.

"I think it's really nice, and the shops in Main Street have made a real effort too which is good to see.

"It's great to see so many people here, and we've had a chance to catch up with some old friends we hadn't seen for many months."

Cullingworth resident Glen Morley, 57, said: "I haven't had a chance to come to Haworth at this time of year for a while, so it's great to be back.

"I've probably bought a bit more than I should but I'll worry about that later!"

Haworth Main Street trader Mike Hutchinson said: "It was very busy and there was a lovely atmosphere. The weather being dry enhanced everything and I'd like to thank Richard Ambler and his team at Bradford Markets.

"This is a good time to hold this event, and it'll be on again at the same weekend next year."
