SILSDEN'S multi-world champion Dougie Lampkin was the star performer at Bradford & District Motor Club's E S Myers Trophy Trial at Skyrakes Farm, Skipton.

Over 50 riders contested the annual event which was part of the West Yorkshire Championship series. The 14 sections on the hill-top course overlooking Gargrave were certainly cold, as 14 observers will testify. Even the final five in the easy valley were arctic despite a strong winter sun beaming down.

Section planners Richard Taylor, Nathan Wrigglesworth, Brian and Anthony Ayrton marked as many sections as possible where there was a vestige of shelter from the easterly wind. Those on the ridge above Gargave were the coldest.

Of course, the cold weather did not deter the youngsters. Alfie Lampkin wanted to ride with his cousin George Hemingway so that brought his dad Dougie into the action.

The trials legend blazed a clean ride through every section tracked by Lampkin junior, who showed all the Lampkin traits but was pipped to third by his cousin George in Class C.

Only Nigel Crowther and Richard Mellon got round in single figures in Clubman A, leaving Addingham Class B youth Edward Earle to keep the adults in check.

Michael Benn would have been closer to the front runners but performed some kind of ritual while fighting for grip in the penultimate section.

Denholme’s Andy Brooksbank abandoned his Sherco at the top of the same section and flew, without machine, ten metres down the banking – somehow missing all the rocks in his flight.

Daughter Olivia watched while waiting to ride the same section, which she did without any acrobatics.
