Wharfedale Triangle League Premier Division: Keighley Town 3 Crossflatts Village 2
THIS local derby proved to be an exciting clash, with the result in doubt until virtually the last kick of the match.
Town spurned two good chances early on and the visitors made them pay as they opened the scoring.
This setback did not deter Keighley and they began to take control.
In the 25th minute a great cross from the right wing saw Leroy Hickman sweetly dispatch an equaliser. Five minutes later Town took the lead when Gary Shepherd found the net.
Crossflatts started the second half the quicker of the two teams. They earned three corners in the space of five minutes but the hosts defended them well.
Play flowed from end to end as both keepers were kept busy. Village hit back to level and the game looked to be heading for a draw but, with almost the last kick, Shepherd got his second to give Town all three points.
Cullingworth Youth’s match at Shipley Town was postponed, while Keighley Athletic were well beaten at home by Sky Bet, the leaders coming away with a 4-0 success.
The league resumes action on January 8.
