KEIGHLEY features in a new book of railway photos celebrating the steam age.

The publication brings together a collection of pictures by celebrated rail snapper Ron Buckley.

They illustrate the changing locomotive scene throughout Northumberland, Durham and Yorkshire from the late 1930s through to the final days of steam.

Among the locos spotlighted is No 52044, which is currently awaiting overhaul on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. It was pictured in 1953.

There is also a shot of a class 4F 0-6-0 No 44216. It was captured steaming into Keighley Station as the 12.37 from Skipton to Bradford Forster Square, on August 14, 1956.

Each photo is accompanied by text penned by railway author and volunteer, Brian Dickson.

A spokesman for the publisher, The History Press, said: "This latest selection of Ron's photographs is a must for steam-lovers everywhere.

"The razor-sharp images, which haven't been published before, capture a time of great change on the railways – from 1936 to 1963.

"Included are evocative photographs of many classic engines still working during this time and also examples of some of the newer designs.

"The works of engineers such as Wordsell, Raven, Aspinall, Gresley and many others are showcased in detail.

"And each image is complemented by Brian's informative text, which tells when the photograph was taken along with details of the locomotive and its history."

Steam in the North East – Northumberland, Durham and Yorkshire; The Railway Photographs of RJ (Ron) Buckley, retails at £19.99 in paperback.
