TEENAGERS from Cullingworth laid on afternoon tea for one of the village’s oldest residents to celebrate his birthday.

Cullingworth man Jeffrey Roberts turned 90 on Monday (January 16) and sixth formers from the village’s Parkside School wanted to mark the occasion.

So they helped organise a surprise birthday tea for Jeffrey and his wife Audrey a few days beforehand at Cullingworth Thursday Club.

The students involved in the preparations were Cameron Allatt, Sophie Tankard, Charlotte Burton and Sophie Wood.

Parkside School sixth form has a long connection with the village’s club for senior citizens, and took over responsibility for running it when it was threatened with closure after 50 years. Students volunteer their time each week to help run sessions.

Last summer students Josh Bingham and Paul Mercer visited the club as part of their Sports Leaders course.

They ran a session of chair aerobics with the members, demonstrating exercises appropriate for the elderly.
