YOUNGSTERS set sail for the Isle of Struay – without leaving the classroom!

Pupils boarded a 'ship' bound for the fictional island as part of a Scottish-themed day.

The event was held at Eastburn Junior and Infant School to celebrate the culmination of a class-two topic on the Katie Morag stories.

Making traditional shortbread and learning about Scotland's patron saint, St Andrew, were also among the activities.

And the children donned tartan or dressed as characters from the popular books, created their own tartans and were taught the dance, the Alloway Kirk Rant.

A school spokesman said the project, which also featured in geography and English classes, had been a huge success.

"This has become a regular event and each time it gets better and better," she added.
