A GROUP of residents looking after a Cullingworth beauty spot has decided to call it a day.

The Friends of the Dell is disbanding because Bradford Council no longer provides liability insurance for such groups.

Members felt that due to council cutbacks and lack of volunteers it was no longer viable to oversee the Dell, a wooded beckside area off Greenside Lane.

Cullingworth Village Council heard the news at their January meeting.

Councillors voted to thank the Friends for their work clearing and maintaining the Dell, and all they had achieved as a small group of volunteers over the past few years.

The Village Council expressed concern about the future of the area and hoped the charity Forest of Bradford, who had previously worked with the Friends, would continue to manage the Dell from time to time to protect it as a wildlife habitat.
