A KEIGHLEY woman will travel to Greece next week with other charity volunteers to help refugees stranded in camps in bitterly cold conditions.

Aisha Ali-Khan is due to travel next Wednesday (Feb 8) with fellow volunteers from the Dewsbury-based Moonlight Trust, including former England Rugby League player Ikram Butt and charity founder Nousheen Raja.

Ms Khan said she and the group would assess the scale of the problem and distribute warm clothing and hygiene kits.

"There are thousands of refugees in camps around Athens and on different islands, who hadn't been expected to still be in Greece over the winter," she said.

"It's very cold, they don't have warm clothes and they're living under plastic sheeting where they can't even light fires because it's too hazardous."

Ms Khan is also helping to promote an awareness and fundraising charity dinner for Moonlight Trust, which takes place at Bradford's Oasis Academy Lister Park school.

The three-course buffet meal, which will also feature guest speakers, is this Sunday February 5 at 3.30pm.

Tickets are £15 for adults £7 for under 12s. Pay via Paypal (info@moonlighttrust.org.uk) or on the door. All proceeds will go to winter relief for refugees in Greece.
