SHERIDAN Smith and Chris Peluso lead the cast of Funny Girl, which is coming to Bradford’s Alhambra Theatre.

The show will be in town for one week only from June 6 to 10, having enjoyed record-breaking sold-out runs at the Menier Chocolate Factory and Savoy Theatre in London.

Smith and Peluso will be joined by Nigel Barber (Florenz Ziegfeld), Zoë Ann Bown (Mrs. Meeker), Martin Callaghan (Mr. Keeney), Jennifer Harding (Emma), Rachel Izen (Mrs Brice), Joshua Lay (Eddie) and Myra Sands (Mrs. Strakosh).

Funny Girl brought global fame to Barbra Streisand 50 years ago, and boasts some of the most iconic songs in film and theatre history, including People and Don’t Rain On My Parade.

This 1963 musical tells the story of Fanny Brice, whose vocal talents and comedic ability see her rise from Brooklyn music hall singer to Broadway star.

The musical is set in and around New York City just prior to and following the First World War.

Ziegfeld Follies star Fanny, awaiting the return of her husband, entrepreneur and gambler Nicky Arnstein from prison, reflects on their life together and their story is told as a flashback.

The early part of the story follows Fanny’s background as a stage-struck teenager who gets her first modest job in vaudeville.

Her mother and her friend Mrs Strakosh try to dissuade her from show business because Fanny is not the typical beauty, but Fanny perseveres, with momentous consequences for her life.
