EMPLOYERS should be given Government incentives to take on disabled workers, says a district MP.

Philip Davies, whose Shipley constituency includes Cullingworth and Denholme, raised the issue in the Commons.

He asked: "What incentives can be given to employers to give disabled people a chance to prove themselves and show what they are capable of if provided with that chance in the first place?"

Disability Minister Penny Mordaunt responded that the Government was looking at what further support could be offered to businesses.

And she added: "One thing we need to do is raise the profile of the fact these individuals have so much to offer."

Mr Davies is planning an event – on April 28 – as part of Disability Confident, a scheme to increase employers' understanding of disabilities.
