A SWASHBUCKLING musical journey across the seven seas has been staged at a local primary school, courtesy of staff and children in years one and two.
The show – set in "Me Hearty High School" – took place at Sutton Community Primary School. It featured gorgeous, glittering mermaids with jewelled faces and flowing, fishy tails alongside a shipload of dodgy looking pirates complete with eye patches and earrings.
Head teacher Fiona Beetles said: "The story was set in the most distinguished pirate school in the land – or should that be seas?
"The trainee pirates couldn't wait to graduate and become proper pirates, but there was one problem…none of them could swim.
"This meant they risked failing their ‘Arrr’ levels. The answer to their problem lay with the mermaids, but as everyone knows pirates do not like mermaids and mermaids do not like pirates.
"Years one and two showed us how they all learned to get along!
"There were seven fantastic songs and a hilarious script. Our children were word perfect and sang loudly and with gusto, particularly the pirates.
"Our audience clapped and cheered and by the end everyone's faced ached from smiling.
"I'd like to thank everyone, including children, parents and staff, for providing such a memorable evening of merriment on the high seas."
