NORTHERN Powergrid is spreading the safety message to schoolchildren across the district.

It is giving presentations to youngsters about the dangers of live electricity.

And the company is keen to hear from other schools interested in hosting free workshops.

During the past year, the electricity distributor's full-time school safety presenters – Leena Markovic and Bob Knox – have worked with around 35,000 pupils.

"Our talks are central to ensuring youngsters stay safe and stay away from our extensive network of overhead power lines and substations," said Leena.

"Through our programme, we're able to teach young people in a controlled setting about very real risks, giving them the skills they need to take responsibility for their own safety and wellbeing."

The talks last up to an hour and can be delivered in a range of formats, from small classroom sessions to whole year group presentations.

They are designed to be interactive and include quizzes and discussions about real-life risk scenarios.
