A PUBLIC consultation has been held to display early plans for a major commercial development in Keighley which could generate hundreds of jobs and cost millions to build.

The session was staged by Michael Ainsworth Design Partnership in Russell Street earlier today. (Feb 22)

This firm is acting on behalf of the applicant PH Holdings, which wants to build on land to the north west of Keighley Industrial Park, off Royd Ings Avenue.

The land earmarked for the possible development comprises green fields lying between the A629 bypass to the west and the River Aire to the east, directly north of a turning circle at the western end of Keighley Industrial Park.

A formal planning application is expected to be submitted to Bradford Council shortly.

Today's consultation was in the Temple Chambers building, and featured a number of plans and drawings showing what the site would look like if a future application is given permission.

Architectural assistant Peter Rushworth, who was present at the consultation, said: "We've had quite a few people interested in the scheme coming in to look at the plans.

"If it's approved there would be nine commercial units and a total of 368 parking spaces. It would be a natural extension to the existing industrial park."

Mr Rushworth said the plan is to elevate the site – including its new access road – to ensure it does not flood.

As previously reported, if constructed the new buildings would comprise 470,000 square feet of space for industrial and commercial use.
