A KEIGHLEY school attended by a pupil whose sister has a congenital heart disease has raised money for the Children's Heart Surgery Fund.

The charity day was held earlier this month (Feb) at Ingrow Primary.

It included a non-uniform day, a raffle, a cake stall, tombola and throwing the sponge at the teacher.

Year two Ingrow Primary pupil, Riley Ushakow, has a two-year-old sister called Isabella who has Hypoplastic right heart syndrome.

A spokesman for the school explained: "This means Isabella was born with no right ventricle. She needs three stages of open heart surgery before she is five or six years old, and then possibly a heart transplant when she is in her 20s."

Inclusion mentor Lucy Buckle and teaching assistant Josie Maude said they were very touched by Isabella's story, and felt they wanted to do something to help.

They added that the generous donations and support from parents at Ingrow Primary meant the school was able to raise a total of £730.

Riley and Isabella's mum, Becky Rodgers, said: "I'm overwhelmed and touched by the effort the school has gone to in support of me and my family."

Lucy, Josie and school teaching assistant Claire Rhodes wish to continue to raise money for Isabella and her family.

The trio are due to complete a 10-mile sponsored walk on Saturday March 4 from Keighley to Skipton along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
