KEIGHLEY'S East Riddlesden Hall will remain closed today due to the threat posed by high winds.

A spokesman for the National Trust attraction confirmed earlier this morning that the hall and its grounds would be shut for all of today "as a precaution".

Meanwhile, Bradford Council has announced that all its sports pitches will be unavailable for use for both days of this coming weekend, due to waterlogging problems.

A spokesman for the council said: "This also applies to school pitches.

"The pitches are waterlogged, making it impossible for sporting events to go ahead. Sorry for any inconvenience."

Wind speeds in the Keighley area have been forecast to die down this evening, and tomorrow is forecast as being calmer and dry.

An update from the Government's Flood Information service website earlier this afternoon, reported: "Following this morning's rain, the levels in the River Aire Upper Catchment have risen and some of the washlands between Gargrave and Keighley including those at Skipton and Cononley have started to fill.

"Levels are beginning to peak around Kildwick but will remain high into the evening before falling overnight. We have staff on standby ready to respond if required.

"We are monitoring the River Aire, Worth and Wharfe."
