KEIGHLEY's 42nd annual model railway show is on track to be the biggest and best yet.

The extravaganza – organised by Keighley Model Railway Club – takes place at a new venue, University Academy Keighley, in Green Head Road, over the weekend of March 11 and 12.

Eighteen layouts will be on display, ranging in scale from the tiny 1:220 Z gauge to the 1:22.5 G, often used outdoors.

Children will be well catered for. There will be Lego, Brio and K'Nex to play with, face painting and an interactive Lego layout.

Thomas and Friends will feature.

And rides will be available on an outdoor live steam railway provided by Keighley Model Engineering Society.

The event also has extensive provision for active modellers.

A club spokesman said: "There will be an enormous range of traders selling everything a modeller could need, including tools, materials, new and used model railways, kits, books and electronics.

"We'll also have demonstrations in paint weathering and kit building throughout the weekend so modellers can extend their knowledge and sharpen their skills.

"We are aiming to provide something for everyone, from the discerning modeller to the beginner and families."

The show is open from 10am to 4.30pm both days.

Admission is £6 for adults, £3 for children and £15 for families (two adults and two children).

It includes entry to a prize draw, with the chance of winning a state-of-the-art digital train set worth up to £400.

"We hope that if people enjoy their day with us they will pay us a visit at our clubrooms – which are among the largest of their kind in the UK," added the spokesman.

"Anyone interested in learning more about us and our hobby is welcome."

The rooms, at Knowle Mills, South Street, Keighley, are open from 7pm until about 10pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 1pm to 5pm on Saturdays.
