CAMPION may be the latest club in the Bradford area to step onto the football pyramid but they will be the first involved in this season's Non-League Day.

Ground-hoppers get more than a day, as the annual event designed to raise the profile of the semi-professional game lasts over a full weekend. It is usually staged around an international break so there is no distraction by Premier League action.

After a 30-year spell in the West Riding County Amateur League, which followed years in the Red Triangle League, Campion moved onto the non-League ladder.

Now, in their first season at that level, their home fixture against Dronfield Town in Division One of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League has been chosen to kick-off Non-League Day.

James Bicknell's side will host their Sheffield-based counterparts on Thursday, April 13 (7.45pm).

"We are Bradford's newest semi-professional team and we have been asked to start the ground-hop weekend, when we are looking to break our highest attendance of 406," said Bicknell.

The Campion manager feels that it is a chance for the Manningham Mills-based outfit to make more people aware of their existence and the level they currently play at.

The fixture could yet be a crucial one for the club as their hopes of reaching the play-offs in their inaugural season in the NCE League is still very much alive.

The club are hoping to maximise the opportunity to get new people through their gate as the league stagger some fixtures and kick-off times to allow ground-hoppers and supporters to take in several games over the weekend.

The other four of the area's NCE League clubs have missed out on their fixtures over the weekend being moved and all have 3pm starts on the Saturday. More information will be released by Campion in the build-up to the event.
