FIELD defeated Horbury Town 2-0 in their West Yorkshire League Premier Division clash at Hollingwood Lane.

The first half saw few chances created by both teams, but Field dominated the second period and John Penn deservedly put his side ahead with a free-kick from outside the penalty area.

The Field goalkeeper Jordan Laban then made a great save to deny Horbury equalising.

Joe Vickers made the game safe when he ghosted in at the far post to complete the scoring for Field.

With Carlton Athletic running away at the top of the league, Field find themselves in third position – ten points behind second-placed Leeds City but with three games in hand.

Wyke Wanderers suffered a shock 3-0 defeat against Otley Town, who are stuck at the bottom of Division One.

Wyke were the better team in the opening exchanges, but they found themselves a goal behind following a good shot from the edge of the penalty box.

Wanderers bounced back by controlling the remainder of the first half but they couldn’t break through their opponents.

The second period began with Otley defending well as Wyke struggled to get a foothold in the match.

Wyke started to push forward and left gaps for the inevitable counter attacks that brought Otley two further goals.

Dave Ryan, Wyke secretary, said: “We played well overall but couldn’t hurt the opposition.”

Wyke are now tenth in the league table with nine matches left to play.

Baildon Trinity Athletic lost 1-0 at Rawdon Old Boys who are the Division Two league leaders.

Field reserves progressed to the semi-finals of the West Yorkshire League Trophy with a 2-0 win against Boroughbridge reserves.

Ben Baker and Tom Ponter received yellow cards but Glyn Hirst and Tom Lambert scored the goals for Field.

Wyke Wanderers reserves' young side put in their best performance of the season but still lost 2-1 against Hunslet Club reserves in the Alliance Division One.

In the first half, Wyke played nice, controlled football and deserved to go ahead after 15 minutes through the drive and endeavour of Martyn Hall in midfield.

The goal gave Wanderers more confidence and they continued to attack the Hunslet Club at will, while also defending well.

Hunslet equalised when a long punt caught out Wyke's defenders and one of their players chipped the goalkeeper. With 10 minutes to go, Hunslet grabbed the winner following a free-kick outside the 18-yard box that was subsequently bundled into the net.
