APPROVAL has been given to sell historic woodland at Park Wood to a neighbouring business.

Copperwaite Fleet Management asked Bradford Council to sell it a strip of land adjoining its heavy goods vehicle maintenance garage on Parkwood Street.

The land is 0.74 per cent of the whole Park Wood site, which was given to the people of Keighley by the Duke of Devonshire in 1928.

The council is currently the sole trustee for Parkside Recreation Ground, the charity which has owned the land ever since.

The council’s Regulatory And Appeals Committee last week (March 9) agreed to sell the land to Copperwaite for £15,000.

The decision was subject to tree planting to screen the nearby play area, a new public access to the woodland, and a restrictive covenant ensuring that Copperwaite’s use of the land did not cause a nuisance.

The land will be used to extend Copperwaite’s service yard.
